Registered nurses who wish to advance their career can undertake the Graduate Diploma in Nursing, and build upon their undergraduate education and previous clinical experience. This course is founded on an environment conducive to critical inquiry, testing of ideas and generation and expansion of knowledge, and is directed towards a high degree of expertise as a nurse with greater levels of responsibility. The curriculum is focussed on an increased understanding of the value of research and evidence-based practice.
Graduates of this course can take up leadership in provision of responsive nursing care for individuals and families in general and specialised care, and can undertake research in their chosen field.
This program offers a pathway for Registered Nurses with Diploma of Nursing qualification to gain a Postgraduate qualification. The Graduate Diploma in Nursing course work reinforces theory and skills learnt in class with supervised clinical placements in an appropriate healthcare environment.
This course is delivered over 1 year for full time students (international and domestic). Domestic students may also undertake the course part time, and it will take 2 years for completion. Students who have already completed a Graduate Certificate in Nursing may be eligible for advanced standing, subject to credit transfer and recognition of prior learning procedures.
